SZ podcast “To the Point”: Debate culture: What we can learn from the Brosius-Gersdorf case

For a good two weeks, politicians and social media have been debating Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf. The lawyer was nominated by the SPD as the new constitutional judge, but the election was postponed due to discontent within the CDU/CSU. Parts of the CDU/CSU accuse Brosius-Gersdorf of being too left-wing.

This debate is reminiscent of the culture wars in the US. Is this a sign that American conditions will soon be present here as well? Political scientist Julia Reuschenbach discusses the consequences of political polarization in this podcast . She explains how it's possible to have a proper debate as a society and how well the culture of discourse in Germany is functioning so far.
